10 Reasons to Avoid Soda Pop

Here is a list of ten reasons to avoid soda pop complete with simplified explanations. There are subtle differences in brands of soda pop and the chemicals listed below vary in proportion from one formula to the next, but are contained is varying degrees in most soda pop formulas.

1. The phosphoric acid dilutes the hydrochloric acid in the digestive tract causing poor digestion.

2. The phosphoric acid spikes the body pH to an acid state from an alkaline state creating an excellent environment for disease to take hold.

3. Adding the extra phosphorous to the body sets off the 1 to 1 ratio of calcium and phosphorous required in the blood and calcium is removed from bones and teeth to restore the balance. This exchange action causes osteoporosis.

4. Carbonation irritates the stomach. The body calls for calcium to calm the irritation once again disrupting the calcium - phosphorous balance and removing calcium from bones and teeth.

5. Carbonation causes belching which in turn causes acids from the stomach to rise up past the esophageal value (acid reflux). The stomach acid dissolves tissue as is its purpose, causing lesions to occur. Lesions are tissue damage where cancer cells can take hold.

6. Caffeine causes dehydration thus causing a massive depletion of vital minerals.

7. Sugar also causes dehydration and a massive loss of vital minerals.

8. Sugar reduces the white blood cells ability to destroy bacteria. This low immune function can last up to 5 hours after sugar is consumed.

9. Sugar substitutes used in sugarless pops have not been adequately researched and have been linked to dangerous chemicals and environmental toxins.

10. Despite the plastic coating on the inside of soda pop cans, aluminum is still leached into the soda pop. Aluminum in brain tissue is linked to Alzheimer's disease.

This is the time of year when there is the most soda pop consumption. The information listed above has caused me to rethink my attitude about what I drink.

Dodging H1N1 and others!

Are you concerned about Swine Flu or H1N1?

Prevention is more fun than treatment and lingering until it passes.

Support your immune system and contagious diseases can be avoided without vaccines. It is not difficult to understand that in order to stay healthy we need to take care of ourselves in many aspects of our lives. Diet, exercise, nutrition, stress avoidance, mental health all play a part in boosting boosting the immune system.

I used to get sick 5 or 6 times per year with sinus infections that would last up to 3 weeks. I have not been sick since December of 2007. Here's is what changed in my daily routine since then.

1. I remove environmental toxins and heavy metals daily with an activated liquid zeolite,

2. I balance the pH of my body with the same zeolite.

3. I prevent the replication of viruses with the zeolite product as well.

4. I eat less animal protein from all sources.

5. I supplement my diet with a whole food based multi-vitamin, multi-mineral, super antioxidant, and herbal liquid nutrition product.

6. I take an immune boosting liquid agarigus blazei mushroom and sasa bamboo supplement that regenerates the natural killer cells of the immune system.

7. Although I had regularly exercised, I now walk every day besides my martial arts training 2 days per week.

8. I am more careful about what I eat.

These 8 activities that I use to avoid getting sick are simple and work when nothing else has to keep me healthy.

Second Brain or Take Care of Your Gut

Did you know that your gut contains more neuro-transmitters than your brain? It only stands to reason then that we should take care of that gut area. This area contains our liver, kidneys, bladder, large and small intestines, stomach and spleen. I was recently introduced to an series of acupressure points that support the gut by flushing toxins and rearranging the energy flow to and from those organs. If there is something wrong with our gut, more energy is required to stabilize it and less energy then is available for transfer to other areas of our body. The reason for my introduction to this technique was chronic low back pain. Here is the testimonial I left for Doctor Hestdalen.

My name is Jay and I am a third Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. As a martial arts instructor, I have to be flexible, strong and fast in motion. I have suffered from chronic low back pain for the last 41 years and this pain level has increased as I aged until it has begun to affect my activity level. Required activities like kicking, jumping, turning, sweeping and falling cause an incresed level of pain that now affects sleep. Reducing the toxic burden of my system or Second Brain has really helped. I am once again sleeping through the night without difficulty and am resuming a more normal activity level at the gym.

When I added the acupressuure points, as taught by Dr. Hestdalen in his Second Brain Teleseminar, I noticed a significant relief in my low back pain. I have increased my efforts to reduce my toxic burden and the energy drain that has been aggravating my low back for years. I recommend the Second Brain Teleseminar to anyone with chronic pain. Following the steps given is easy and the results are priceless.

Here are the three steps that I used to nearly completely eliminate my low back pain.

1. See chiropractor for spinal manipulation and reduce activity for a couple of days.

2. Increase level of intake on oral chelation supplement (activated liquid zeolite) to remove sequestered heavy metals and environmental toxins.

3. Use the Second Brain Acupressure techniques as described in the Second Brain Teleseminar.

On Recommending Exercise

WASHINGTON - MAY 5: U.S. President George W. ...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

There is a recently published study on how to recommend regular exercise to chronically ill adults.
Although this study was of chronically ill adults, the concepts should work for healthy adults as well. The study suggests that cognitive approaches to suggesting exercise does not work. Like the proverbial broken record, people have heard it enough. They already know that exercise in important to their health and recovery.

The solution may be behavior changing strategies. Then the question becomes what types of activities will stimulate exercise, or the mind-set to exercise regularly? One of the most obvious is to set goals. Set a reasonable goal for low impact exercise like walking 20 minutes per day. Increase the goals as they are achieved. To begin with, it is more important that we do something every day for exercise, the goal is to set the habit of exercising. Then increase the goals to sustainable activity with longer time periods. To begin with even 12 minutes of walking will achieve results, but certainly more is better in this regard.

Put your walking shoes by the door, write down your goals, get feedback from friends and family, invite people to join you, self-monitor your activity in a calendar, record you accomplishments.

I started TaeKwonDo when my children wanted to quit and I wouldn't let them. I saw many benefits of social, mental, spiritual, and physical nature that I wanted them to continue. By making it a family venture, it became more acceptable to them. Two days a week of this more strenuous exercise must be tempered with a lower impact form of exercise the rest of the week.

Recently Judy and I have formed a walking group that meets daily at one of two prearranged places for an hour of walking together. It is more fun to walk with friends and we motivate each other. It is more difficult to do these things alone. Among our walking group are cancer survivors, stroke victims and diabetics. They benefit from the group activity to stimulate their interest in exercise.

Try these ideas to help you exercise and help others as well.

Heavy Metals Linked to Cancer

Smoke stacks (LOC)Image by The Library of Congress via Flickr

Heavy metals like cadmium, arsenic, lead, mercury, nickle, iron, copper, aluminum, and beryllium have been linked to causing cancer and other dread diseases and disorders. These heavy metals are found in the air we breath, the food we eat, and the water we drink. They are virtually everywhere. They cannot be avoided. It is possible to limit exposure if someone would know all of the exposures and limit one's activities to avoid them, but there would still be unknown exposures. The trick is to live a lifestyle without fear in the face of heavy metal exposure and potential cancer diagnosis.

The problem is that these free radical heavy metals replace other vital minerals in the body causing immune deficiencies. Enzyme activity is disrupted when heavy metals replace these minerals. This enzyme disruption can cause DNA damage to cells and cause cancers to occur.

Zinc finger proteins are necessary for cell division. If mercury or cadmium has replaced the zinc in this protein, cell division cannot occur in those cells. This causes problems with healing from wounds, or surgeries, etc.

Miracle Cancer Survivors

T helper cell functionImage via Wikipedia

There are people who survive cancer without medical intervention or despite medical intervention. Patients who were sent home to die under hospice care or people who refused medical intervention suddenly stage a miraculous and unprecedented recovery. How does this happen?

The medical community dismissed it as a fluke, as expected. What they don't know, they don't want to know. What they don't know can hurt and kill others. The close mindedness of some doctors absolutely astounds and frustrates me. I thought they all had scientific interests and should jump at a chance to examine such events.

It appears that there is a link between unrelated illness during cancer that triggers an immune response that strengthens the immune system to fight the cancer as well. Can an active and vibrant immune system fight and kill cancer cells? Can alternative and complementary health care be more than a placebo effect for cancer patients? It seems that this may be the case. Nutrition and supplementation may be the new cancer treatment.

The Air We Breath

The very air we breath can make us sick and cause other health problems. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) have been linked to many diseases and disorders in humans. Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) has seriously diminished over the years of the industrial age due to the creation of chemical compounds of every nature for every purpose. Are there set standards for indoor air quality? The government has regulatory power over some workplace air quality issues.

Can these harmful toxins be avoided or our exposure reduced? Some of these toxins can be avoided through properly handling exposures that release these chemical compounds into the air. Few but some can be filtered from the air. Many are difficult to detect and have not had enough study for regulatory agencies to decide how to handle them, and many are so beneficial that their hazard is overlooked or minimized in the interest of industrialization and modernization.

Further posts will discuss more on air quality, toxins, and solutions.

Complementary Medicine for Cancer

Many people have now turned to complementary medicine to help with the effects of cancer and cancer treatment. This is not to say that any of them have rejected traditional medicine, just supplement it with extras like prayer and meditation, nutritional supplements, relaxation techniques and more.

My middle daughter has used those listed above with great results. Oral chelation with supplements removed the toxins that come with the chemotherapy before they could make her sick. A nutrition supplement replenished her dietary needs. Prayer and meditation relaxed her and put her in an accepting frame of mind. See the link below for more concise information on Complementary Medicine for Cancer Patients. Link is to Natural News.com

Why Supplements are Necessary

The soil can no longer support the same quality of nutrients in fruits and vegetables as it once did. The soil has been raped and pillaged for a long time and proper renewal has not taken place.

There are excerpts in the rest of the post from a Health, Wealth and Wisdom Newsletter from Waiora International, LLC to its distributors, dated March 2008, by an unlisted author. The newsletter is in the public domain and was issued for public consumption. There are no copyright issues to deal with. It is not online so linking is impossible.

Fruits and Vegetables are no Longer Enough.

Technological advancements along with consumer demand have negatively affected our current-day food supply, particularly for those who want to eat well.

Food is now harvested before it is ripe, and the soil in certain parts of the U.S. has become depleted of most of its valuable nutrients. Then there are other factors such a pesticide and herbicide residue, chemical additives and preservatives, storage/distribution/transportation and finally cooking.

All of this has weakened the micro-nutrient content of our food by the time is reaches our mouths, and this has created a false sense of security when it comes to the recommended daily amounts of essential vitamins and minerals we think we are taking in.

Check out this example:
Amounts of Vitamin C in 100 grams of Spinach
1950 = 150 mg
1963 = 100 mg
1982 = 63 mg
1994 = 013 mg.

The solution:
A complete, whole food, multi-nutrient supplement is a sensible health care strategy for those who want to take control of their own health. My family and I take "Essential Daily Nutrients" every day to support our health and nutrition requirements.

Check out the Nutritional Supplement information in the sidebar hyperlinks "Related Links".

Plan Your Garden

It a good time of year to plan a garden. The snow is on the ground. I'm looking forward to spring, Cabin fever is living in me. I want to be outside again.

Sound familiar. Its time to plan the garden. An activity that takes me from now to planting time. There are so many items to plan and prepare. Everyone who gardens must decide what they will plant; how and where they will buy the seeds or plants; what varieties of plant will grow the best in their soil type, How they will prepare the soil and the list goes on.

The seed catalogs are arriving. That's a good place to start. After I have determined how much room is available, a seed and plant list can be formulated. I live in an area with high clay content in the soil and it is very difficult to prepare a good seed bed. Planning is required to find the necessary tillage equipment to break up more garden land and to amend the soil with the right organic matter to get and keep the soil loose for a good seed bed.

When choosing what plants to grow in my garden, I try to plant the most nutritious plants that my family will eat. Green beans, broccoli, tomatoes, onions, and peppers are a staple in my family's garden. When time and room allow cucumbers, squash and pumpkins are also favorites.

Will I grow the tomatoes, peppers and broccoli from seed in the basement or will I buy plants at a nursery? That decision depends on the varieties of plants I decide to grow. There is great flexibility and choice in growing your own plants from seed, and you can be busy with gardening from planning to planting. The draw back is the if you have a problem with damp off or something else you will not be rewarded for your extra time and planning because you will have to settle for what you find at the nursery anyway.

Whatever you decide, if you raise a garden you will be rewarded with the best possible quality vegetables and you have control over your own chemical exposure.

Why Eat 'Whole Foods'?

Eating whole foods insures intake of the total amount of available nutrients in the proportion the food contains. A whole food diet has been suggested as good for our health and well-being, assuring that all nutrients available by nature in a natural way are consumed in their entirety.

Whole foods from vegetable sources include: fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds.

Studies have revealed that it is possible to contract disease from refined foods with parts missing. Polished rice has been linked to beri-beri, and plain cornmeal has been linked to pellagra, both of which are vitamin B deficiencies.

Elements of nutrition are not all found spread throughout the foods. Juices and tofu generally considered healthful are all missing fiber. The typical separation of wheat grains removes vital nutrients, The germ contains fat and vitamin E, the endosperm contains proteins and carbohydrates, and the aleurone layer of the bran contains the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. When wheat is fragmented in processing, vital nutrients are removed. It is easy to see the reasoning behind the whole foods movement in nutritional health.

My family has moved to a diet the contains more whole foods, but that is difficult to do completely. We continue to work on different aspects of implementing whole foods. This weekend we intend to experiment with whole grain pizza crust, breads, dumplings and noodles, etc.

American Heart Month

February is American Heart Month.

Heart disease if the leading cause of death in the United States and is a major cause of disability.

The simple answers to avoiding heart disease are eat right and exercise often. Avoid cholesterol and triglyceride bearing foods like red meat, dairy and eggs. Eat more fruit and vegetables, nuts and berries, grains and legumes. I have reduced my meat, dairy and egg consumption. It has been fun to learn a whole new way of cooking.

A daily regiment of vigorous exercise is a good idea as well. At least 20 minutes of exercise that will get your heart rate elevated above normal is a good start. Work up to it at a safe pace. If you have concerns about the amount of exercise please consult your physician. I walk every day with the same group of people just like forming a small club. We can visit while we walk vigorously at a pace of 2 miles in 40 minutes. This is enough to warm me up and elevate my heart rate as recommended.

I also take supplements that work to avoid heart disease. I take an Omega 3 fish oil supplement, an immune booster, and a cellular detox product that I have written about several times. There are also fiber products and antioxidant products that support a healthy heart. See the sidebar "Related Links" for more information on supplements I recommend.

Detoxify at the Cellular Level

There are many detox products and activities that are available today. Detoxification at the cellular level is the best way because it detoxes the entire body. Most detox products only detoxify the digestive system, where it is administered through teas and activated charcoal, etc. Heavy sweat workouts are also forms of body detoxification, but do not address the whole body.

Activated liquid zeolite is sub-microscopic and is absorbed into the the blood stream and goes throughout the body, removing heavy metals and environmental toxins. Besides removing toxins, activated zeolite also balances pH, and improves the immune system.

The audio file "Toxic Storm" provides more supported information regarding the need to detoxify. It is 22 minutes long and has very good information. "Toxic Storm" is available in the sidebar Related Links.

Superfoods for Natural Health

How about eating your way to health and prevent serious illness like heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Super foods can do just that. These foods are all natural, available in your grocery store right now and possess 'super' amounts of good quality nutrients that your body requires to support a healthy immune system, and thus fight off disease.

A short list of the best super foods include: beans, blueberries, broccoli, oats, oranges, pumpkin, salmon, soy, spinach, tea, tomatoes, turkey, walnuts, and yogurt.

Watch for high fructose corn syrup in the yogurt, it may contain the harmful heavy metal, mercury.

Soy products are not recommended for people that have a history of breast cancer or other related cancers like prostate cancer due to the presence of phytoestrogens.

Yogurt is the only processed food in the list and guess what, it is the only one with a toxicity warning.

I have been implementing many of these super foods in my families diet for a while know and did not know it. Now that I have information to back me up and a longer list I will further adjust our diet.

There is a whole food super food supplement that contains Agarigus Blazei mushroom that has been genetically hybridized along with sasa bamboo that is second to none in supporting the immune system. Check it out in the sidebar links (Immune Booster Information). My family has been using this product since it has become public and have noticed great results pertaining especially to not getting sick during the cold and flu season.

Mercury Alert!!

Mercury was found in nearly 50% of tested samples of commercial High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS). according to a recent article in the scientific journal, Environmental Health. HFCS is used in sweetened beverages, breads, cereals, breakfast bars, lunch meats, yogurts, soups and condiments.

Looking at the above list would tend to make me think that our youth are very vulnerable to this mercury. Here's the link to the whole article.

Mercury has been linked to behavior disorders like ADHD, ADD, and Autism to name a few.

Mercury can be removed from the body on a cellular level. See sidebar information for hyperlinks to detoxification solutions.

Balance for Health, Not Just Nutritional

Balance is critical to good health. It prevents falls; helps us move along uneven surfaces, and keeps us upright for all types of activity. Balance can be achieved or improved if it is lost through aging, illness or injury. Improving balance can be a simple matter of standing on unstable surfaces and trying not to wobble and fall. With practice, there will be improvement. Visual focus is a large part of balance. When the eyes are open and focused on a single object, its easier to remain steady. The balance practice can also be a strength training activity. It will take muscle activity to adapt to the unstable surface. Once stability is achieved while standing, try lifting one leg off the unstable surface and balance then try the other leg. Keep making the activity more difficult to continue to improve balance.

I have just noticed a reduction in my balance and am going to renew my efforts to improve.

Why Floss Your Teeth?

I just read in Natural Health Magazine that there is more impact on your health from flossing your teeth than just cleaning all the way around your teeth. It appears that the bacteria associated with gum disease also triggers an immune response of inflammation throughout the body. So, flossing your teeth at least once per day could protect against many illnesses including heart disease, some forms of arthritis and even cancer.

I have been very poor at flossing my teeth. Up until now, the only reason I had for flossing teeth was to prevent tooth decay on the post teeth of a bridge in my mouth. Now that I have more reasons to floss my teeth, I have less difficulty taking the time to do it. I read this article three days ago and I have flossed my teeth the last two mornings. It is my plan to continue my daily flossing routine as a multiple benefit task. It will keep that bridge in my mouth longer, it will prevent the decay of my other teeth as well and it will remove the bacteria that may cause serious inflammation problems throughout my body.

Reduced Joint Pain

Joint pain was my constant companion for years. Injuries and aging had effected the joints in my legs, arms, shoulders, and back. Years of overstretching, heavy lifting, unbalanced muscle strength and risky behavior had taken their toll. My nights were filled with wonder, wondering whether I would ever fall asleep through the pain.

Today I sleep well and have less pain in my joints thanks to more reasoned activities, better exercise plan, and an inflammation reducing supplement that has no side effects. Ibuprofen and other anti-inflammatory over the counter medications had caused me severe digestive distress in the past. The bioactive hyperimmune milk protein concentrate in the the joint aid suppllement I take has removed all of my discomfort except for an injury that will require surgery on my right shoulder. There is only pain in that joint when I strain it.

Medicine for the Spirit

Meditation is medicine for the spirit. Nutrition can heal the mind, but meditation can heal the spirit. I recently had a great experience with active meditation. In order to promote a consistent healthy exercise plan a group of my friends and family have started a walking group. We meet every day possible and walk at a vacant school gymnasium. During these events I have begun a regiment of running, concentrating very heavily on my breathing. This level of concentration causes me to enter into a state of meditation that is very difficult to break and causes me to be able to run longer with less pain or breath control problems. Long distance running has been a problem for me because of a shortness of breath. I have never been able to run around the block. Today when I practice meditation while running I can run for half an hour or better. It is my goal to continue to run for longer periods of time. I do experience a great peace of mind while a run and after I run when meditation is involved.

NEAT - Daily Activity versus Gym Workout

I just read an article in Natural Health Magazine about using daily activities rather than intensive gym time for exercise. The results were better than gym time workouts. The term NEAT refers to Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis. This article talks about incorporating daily activities that have been enhanced by the removal of labor saving devices and machines, etc.

I won't give up the gym, because it is a part of my lifestyle and a way the I can help others, but I will and often do walk around town rather than drive, use a whisk rather than an electric mixer, rake leaves rather than use a leaf blower and many other tasks that can be more active.

There is no cost to NEAT. If you don't have the more activity weapons like rakes, or whisks they can be purchased at any rummage sale because no else is using them any more.

The boomer age has seen labor saving developments that have actually been detrimental to their health by limiting activity and therefore healthy exercise. Riding lawn mowers and snow blowers will not likely be cast away for push mowers and shovels anytime soon, but if the weather is nice and you can safely handle the exercise, do the work the hard way for a while for your health. It would not require too much imagination to fine the hard way to do even the most simple of projects.

So stand up right now just because you can.

New Year's Commitment

Resolutions are not generally for me. I don't care for the haphazardly set goals for the new year. That is why I say Commitment.

This year I have committed to a healthy lifestyle that includes exercise, healthy diet, and nutritional supplements. The difference this year is that I have developed a network of friends who are also committed to the same thing.

We meet every night to walk for an hour. We meet once per week to share healthy eating ideas and recipes, we all take the same healthy aging supplements. There is more to healthy aging than taking supplements. It is the diet and exercise component that excites me most. Good friends sharing healthy help and support for each other. Like AA it works when all else fails. There is no need to do it alone.

I want to exercise on that mountain again some day.

The Sloppy Vegetarian

I have been reading a lot about macrobiotic and vegetarian diets. For a long time I thought that these diets were dangerous and unrealistic for most people to even comprehend. This would hold especially true for me. I am a hunter and gatherer, so to speak and I bring home a lot of game for the table. So compromise is the name of the game for me. I am going to limit my animal protein intake in order to get some kind of idea of how these lifestyle changes will work in my life.

I have tried to limit my animal protein before with limited but good results. Within the first 2 months I dropped 15 pounds with no effort before I hit a plateau where I had no weight change for a month or more then dropped another 5 pounds. During the time I limited the animal protein, I had no health problems or concerns appear. My energy level increased and I felt good. I did take nutritional supplement to make sure that I was getting all the vitamins, minerals, poly phenols, herbs, and whole food fruits that I needed in my diet to remain healthy.

It is difficult to stay on such a diet with no family support. This started out as an experiment, but was so successful that I want to go back to it and continue with it. By setting the example of good health and feeling good, dropping excess weight I hope to inspire my family to join me. Currently I limit my animal protein to 2 or 3 ounces of meat 1 or 2 days per week. This will get the game out of the freezer by next fall and I can get the benefits a healthy lifestyle change.

Relax and Enjoy Life

Relaxation is a key component to a healthy lifestyle. I like to hunt, fish, rock hound or do any activity that can be done outside. The air is fresh, I can learn from nature, and the work day stress is dissipated. My mind is on fun things rather than focused on problems when I am relaxing.

The photo shows several fish houses on the Red River of the North in downtown Breckenridge. This photo reminds me that I must have fun too. I do not always have to work or soon my fun will be work.

My relaxation activities are more physically demanding than my work so it is important for me to keep fit. So the discomfort of strenuous physical activity does not come upon me, there are two supplements in my arsenal that relieves the pain. The zeolite with its negative charge removes the pain causing chemicals from my muscles thus reducing the pain and a healthy aging product reduces the inflammation in my back and other joints to relieve joint pain. I rely on them to help me relax by not allowing the discomfort of strenuous activity to occur.
